The Homes

Three beautifully sustainable, architect-designed homes, detailed to create a low-energy, holistic and healthy internal environment.

Each home can be arranged as either 2 or 3 bedrooms, offering flexible living space for different households and lifestyles.

The ground floor accommodation centres around a generous living/dining area, accessed through the kitchen. Generous glazed windows ensure the double-height space is light-filled and airy, and a door opens out onto the decking to connect to the outside space and give fantastic views over the water, towards the beautiful Loch Fyne sunsets.

One downstairs bedroom with en-suite, a family bathroom, and utility/boot room complete the ground floor. The entrance hall also contains the stair to the first floor. Upstairs, two bedrooms and a bathroom complete the accommodation. For those who wish a third bedroom, there is the option to add this upstairs instead of the double-height living space.

Clad in larch and with corrugated iron roofing, the houses echo the local vernacular and use locally sourced timber.

The Site

St Catherine’s is a small, peaceful village on the shores of Loch Fyne. The site is nestle on the lochside, with water frontage and a shelter belt of trees between the houses and road.

The access road approaches past Hollybush Cottage, before reaching the group of three houses. The houses are surrounded by native trees, and outdoor greenspace. Each house is staggered slightly to offer privacy, and each has its own driveway.

Each house has a summerhouse, perfect for enjoying the views and evening sunshine. To the north-east, Allt Na Criche (the burn of the boundary) flows into the sealoch. Behind the houses, Tom Na Sguelachd (Hill of the stories/fable) is a gentle hill. On the opposite shores, Inverary, with the Duke of Argyll’s magnificent castle, and the arched bridge over Loch Shira provide a picturesque view.

The Village

St Catherine’s is a tiny village on the shores of Loch Fyne. The site of a hostelry since the 1400s, the village is named for a chapel and holy well.

The pier not far from the site took travellers across to Inverary, latterly on a steam ferry called ‘The Fairy’. A quarry at St Catherine’s produced stone that was used to build a tower of Inverary Castle.

Today, the village is a peaceful spot between sea loch and hills. A bus service between Inverary and Dunoon passes from West Coast Motors, and a jetty remains from where you can dive, fish, or paddle.

The Area

Argyll is an historic area of Scotland, known for its sealochs, hills, forests, long coastlines, and relaxed pace of life. With a rich history and many attractions, this is an idyllic location with endless opportunities for exploration.

Nearby Inverary is a magnet for tourists, with its quaint harbour and stylish black-and-white high street filled with small independent shops. Dunoon, to the south, has several highly regarded schools, plenty of services and shops, and ferries to Gourock and Greenock that connect to the rail service.

Glasgow is one hour and twenty minutes drive away, while the airport is just over an hour’s drive.
